In today’s dynamic working environment, successful teams require a diverse range of energy and preferences. In this article, we will explore how Insights Discovery can supercharge your team, embracing the energy and preferences represented by different color energies. Of course this is just a brief introduction and if you want to learn more, visit the official website.

Remember that using personality types is not a silver bullet. Other approaches may be fruitful. For instance, I have written a short intorduction to Self Determination Theory for you to check out.

Insights Discovery uses colors to represent unique qualities and energies: Reds are assertive and action-oriented, Yellows are energetic and inspiring, Blues are analytical and detail-oriented, and Greens are empathetic and harmonious. Understanding these energies enhances team dynamics, communication, and problem-solving for optimal performance.

It is important to note that everyone possesses all the different color energies, albeit to varying degrees. Understanding that no real individual in the actual world “is a Red”, “Is a Green” etc. is crucial in leveraging Insights Discovery to further enhance team dynamics.

But let us look at the color energies as archetypes: From the assertive and action-oriented Reds to the energetic and inspiring Yellows, analytical and detail-oriented Blues, and empathetic and harmonious Greens.

Firstly let’s illustrate the archetypeical energies and some of their charactersistics on a good day:

Now let’s dive a little deeper:

The Assertive and Action-Oriented Reds: Driving Results and Taking Charge

Red energy represents assertiveness, drive, and action-oriented preferences. It reflects individuals who are focused on achieving results and taking charge when needed. Individuals with red energy often excel at driving progress, making decisions, and providing leadership. Their assertiveness and ability to take decisive actions can help the team navigate challenges and stay on track.

The Energetic and Inspiring Yellows: Motivating Others and Providing Direction

Yellow energy represents enthusiasm, energy, and a preference for inspiration and fun. It reflects individuals who bring positivity, optimism, and a sense of vibrancy to the team. In an Agile team, individuals with yellow energy excel at energizing and motivating others, boosting team morale, and creating a lively work environment. Their natural ability to communicate and inspire can encourage collaboration and foster a creative atmosphere within the team.

The Analytical and Detail-Oriented Blues: Ensuring Accuracy and Efficiency

Blue energy represents analytical thinking, attention to detail, and a preference for structured approaches. It reflects individuals who thrive on data analysis, logical thinking, and maintaining high standards. In an Agile team, individuals with blue energy excel at analyzing information, identifying patterns, and ensuring accuracy and efficiency in their work. Their meticulous approach helps the team avoid errors, maintain quality, and make well-informed decisions based on facts and figures.

The Empathetic and Harmonious Greens: Fostering Collaboration and Team Cohesion

Green energy represents empathy, harmony, and a preference for collaboration and inclusivity. It reflects individuals who prioritize teamwork, understanding, and valuing the well-being of team members. In an Agile team, individuals with green energy excel at building relationships, understanding stakeholder needs, and creating a harmonious work environment. They have a natural ability to mediate conflicts, promote open communication, and ensure that everyone’s perspectives are heard and considered.

Understanding Different Color Energies:

As mentioned, it’s important to note that while individuals may have a predominant color energy, they also possess varying degrees of the other color energies. Each person is a unique blend of these energies, with some being more dominant and others being secondary or tertiary. This understanding allows team members to appreciate the diverse strengths and preferences within the team. It emphasizes that no one is limited to a single color personality but can draw upon different energy patterns as needed.

For example, even if someone predominantly exhibits Red energy, they may also possess aspects of other energies. They might have a touch of Yellow energy, allowing them to infuse enthusiasm and inspiration into their leadership style. They may also have traces of Blue energy, enabling them to pay attention to detail while making decisions.

Practical use of Insights Discovery

In order to really use Insights Discovery it is important that you try to learn about each team member’s personal color combination as well as take a look at team culture as a whole.

Assessing the prevalent color energies in a team can be done through the Insights Discovery assessment, a validated psychometric tool. Team members complete a questionnaire that measures their preferences and energy patterns. The results provide insights into the distribution of color energies within the team, highlighting which energies are more prevalent. Facilitated team discussions and workshops can also help team members understand and identify their own color energies, enabling them to collectively determine the predominant energies within the team. This assessment process promotes self-awareness, fosters open dialogue, and creates a foundation for leveraging the diverse strengths of the team members.

However, the assessments are costly and so is hiring a consultant. So you could go another more qualitative way through observation and open communication. Team leaders and members can pay attention to the behavioral patterns, communication styles, and problem-solving approaches displayed by individuals.

Engaging in regular team discussions and feedback sessions can provide valuable insights into the predominant energy patterns within the team. By actively listening and observing, team members can identify recurring traits and preferences that align with specific color energies.

This qualitative assessment allows for a general understanding of the prevalent color energies, although it may not provide the same level of accuracy and depth as a formal assessment tool.

It’s important to approach this process with an open mind, as individuals may exhibit different color energies in different contexts and situations. Open and honest communication within the team fosters understanding, appreciation, and collaboration, enabling the team to leverage the diverse strengths and preferences of its members for collective success.

For instance meetings run by someone with a high green preference may be good at making sure everybody is heard. Someone with a strong red energy may focus a lot more on setting goals and assign tasks. And both apporaches are needed in different types of situations.

In conclusion, incorporating Insights Discovery and understanding the diverse color energies within a team can transform team dynamics, communication, and collaboration. By recognizing that individuals possess varying degrees of all the color energies, teams can appreciate the unique strengths and preferences each member brings. Whether it’s the assertive drive of Reds, the energetic inspiration of Yellows, the analytical detail of Blues, or the empathetic harmony of Greens, each energy contributes to a well-rounded and high-performing team. Embracing this diversity fosters a collaborative and inclusive environment where every team member’s contributions are valued and leveraged for success.
